Why We Chose Manufacturing Over Trading

When I started this business, becoming a trading company would have been the easier path.

It requires less investment, fewer people and less equipment. You can focus on finding products, finding customers and connecting the two.

But I chose manufacturing.

The reason was simple: I wanted us to take responsibility for what we supply.

When you have your own workshop, production team and quality system, a problem is not something you can simply pass to another supplier. You have to understand what happened, trace the process and improve it.

Manufacturing also gives us more direct control over quality and consistency. If a process needs adjustment, our production and technical teams can work on it directly. If a customer has a specific requirement, we can evaluate it from the manufacturing side rather than only forwarding a request through a supply chain.

Of course, building a factory is the harder route. It requires continuous investment in people, equipment, systems, quality control and training. It also requires patience. Manufacturing capability is not built overnight.

Since establishing HB SMK in 2017, we have continued to develop our own facility, quality management system and team. Today, more than 100 colleagues work across production, quality, technical and supporting functions.

As we expand our overseas business, I have become even more convinced that this decision matters. International customers do not only need a product name and a price. They need to understand who made the ingredient, how quality is controlled and whether the supplier can support them over the long term.

That is why we chose manufacturing over trading.

Manufacturing is not just what we do. It is part of who we are.
